1812 Campaign of Russia

Hello ADM.

thank you for the new pictures.
You are a very good painter.
Please allow me - the boots of the Line Train are wrong.
They had no red border - only black leather.

Hi Thomas,
of course Napoleonic uniforms are a complex subject and regulation is all about small details, I always take a lot of time to gather as much information as possible before each painting, but remenber, this time this is the guard artillery (as well for the train artillery, not the line train artillery) and from my documentation, there's a red (or white) line atop the boots, and it is well sculpted with the Italeri figures.

These uniforms are for the guard train artillery :

But I'm glad you're checking accuracy because nobody is perfect and errors can always happen. In that case I would repaint them in the right way.

I think that Thomas is correct.

The heavy cavalry style boots had no trim.

The ‘hussar’ style did.

Best wishes,

Chris

I would say Thomas is right, as the portraited men wear the high boots and not the shorter ones in the style of the hussars -with the red . And the higher boots did not have any line. What you see are some kind of stockings or gaiters.

I'm doing the hussard style horse guard artillery unit, long boots are more common for the line or guard foot artillery, the guard horse artillery is very typical, your photos show a mix of everything from foot to horse artillery.

Of course that is correct, but I was looking for examples of long boots And I am conferring to the HäT train figs and the figures from the Italeri supply-wagon. Those have long boots and not the hussard style ones. That is my point. ;-)

They can also be seen in the Rousselot plate you have posted.

I understand Mabo, so I've decided to paint them in white instead of red, according to my documents, it will make them more generic and less specific but its' accurate according to photos.
The Train of the Horse guard artillery was dressed mostly like gunners with common accessories.

Those short boots with red line and long boots with white line are for the horse guard artillery of 1812

So here is the modifications I've just made :

You will notice on the photo below (the same unit of horse guard artillery) that for the period 1813-1814 the red and white line on boots disappeared completely and this is what could make confusion, uniforms was evolutive during the Napoleonic period.

Last post from my side: The white is behind or under respectively, that is my perception. The boots in the last picture are the same as before onthe right figure with the red epaulets. But I leave it up to you of course. ;-)

Of course Mabo, the white seem to be socks or gaiters, but it doesn't matter, as long as it is painted the way it appear to be. Under boots but above the trouser.
If he wear it like that it's because it is regulation.
After 1812 there was nearly nothing left of the "Grande armée" and they simplified or eliminated plenty of details on uniforms to be less costly to manufacture.

Dear ADM,

thank you for the rework/repaint.
For your information - the "white" is a kneeguard in the boots - and
it´s over the boots. You see a little border in the frontside - and more in
the backside...

Best wishes for your impressive project!

I'm rather thinking about gaiters because they cover the knee :

https://medium.com/@aglaya.savova/pride ... f463c55d9d

and it can be black or white according to regulation, but probably of some others colors too, including civilian gaiters as it was the case for trousers, not always white or blue, but sometime, brown, grey or with stripes with different colors.

Hello ADM,

if you want to paint French Guard Artillery - black gaitors for campaign - white gaitors only for parade..

Some more cars, well I realized that I never built any such car in 1/72 scale, but there's no need because I always have the real ones in my street ! ;-)
but it is nothing compared to the price of an F-35B jet fighter ! and if I had to choose I would take the F-35B to solve the problem of finding a place to park. And I wonder what all those cars will become when we will have to drive only electric car, will they be abandonned somewhere in a corn field by the shortage of fuel ???? it will be your chance to get one
