Recently re-visited Porthmadog Model shop in North Wales. I think it is the best bricks and mortar model shop I have visited. Went last year and found some fairly rare gems and this year, although I did not buy any out of production sets, I did buy a lot of other sets. All very competitively priced and a very big selection-every make was available. There was also a huge (maybe 5 x 8ft ?) Rorkes Drift diorama (which looked 28mm scale) in the middle of the shop which looked superb. If you ever visit North Wales (which you should anyway as it is a stunning country!) you must visit this shop.

I also visited Mona Models on the Island of Anglesey in North Wales. The village the shop can be found in is called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, which needless to say, makes its touristy village! The shop was quite small but had a decent selection of 20mm and 28mm figures as well as kits etc. The owner was very friendly and was happy to chat away as I browsed. The shop window had two impressive dioramas on display-an ACW one and a very energetic/eventful one of Roman's invading the Island of Mona (Anglesey). The shop is well worth a visit.

Finally, I visited a shop called Albatross in the town of Aberystwyth in Mid Wales. This was a very old fashioned shop and the walls were literally stacked floor to ceilings with kits in no particular order. If you rummaged around you could find 20mm sets. Some very cheap prices-looks like some boxes had not been moved in 15+ years and still had prices on them such as £3.50! Not a big selection of 20mm (although still respectable), but a huge selection of plastic kits. Worth a visit if you are in the area!

I always buy something from any model shop I visit, regardless of whether I could get it cheaper online or whether I even need it, as I feel it is important to continue supporting the shops. I probably did get a bit carried away though this holiday...

Went to the toystore to buy some paint and saw that they had some animals and trees for a good price, 10 SEK/animal-tree, 4 for 30 SEK. So I bought some trees. The animals were too big.

Animals to large stick them on other scales.

After over 18 years my old twisted home spun tree`s which have served me well throughout each photo shoot were assigned to the landfill bin. They fell to bits! Sob! Sob! BB

I've decided to finish the "collect" part of my WW1 armies, so I picked up the two Emhar German boxes (I have the Revell and Caesar infantry, plus the HaT heavy weapons, only thing missing is the HaT arty, and cavalry once they release them), and HaT's Putilov guns, soon to be manned by artillerymen from the same source.

I aim to finish 2-3 WW1 armies this year.

Here you can see our friend PhilC, who has try to remove as much as he can from the additional plastic on the figures. One can imagine what might be possible with the figures, if the mould would have been better. PhilC is a good painter.

Thought it was about time to replenish the reading and painting stashes


If the reading doesn't indicate my next direction then the figures will.

My plans for these are

• The Spanish infantry and sampler, together with earlier purchases will provide me with enough figures to complete a Spanish infantry brigade
• The Andalusian infantry will provide some skirmishers for my Crusades forces
• 1805 French will put my Revolutionary French back in balance with the Austrians
• The Zvezda WW2 British will hopefully provide enough together with my others I have acquired to create a platoon plus some supports for the BEF in 1940. (Yes, I know I said I would try and not work on WW2 this year, I'm just getting ready for next year!)

Of course the Roundway Down and British Army of 1801 books may give me other ideas.
