Wow, I didn't know anyone ever even made classic toy soldier guards in 1/72. That's amazing.

I have some of the band figures, but all extra stuff like drums and such have disappeared during the years.

The old saying, "Been waiting ages for a bus ,and then two come along at the same time",may seem to apply here in a very odd way. Well at least to my quirky imagination. I`ve been waiting for years, for these to come along, then today the two arrived in view on E Bay.

My scratch built model town of Honeywell, with its railway ,is based upon my young childhood memories and I just had to have the first ever AIRFIX toy figures when I saw them yesterday on E Bay.Although money is important it is however not a stumbling block for me these days if there is something that Mrs B or I want or need.
Growing up in Norwich in the 1950`s & early 60`s. Every Sunday afternoon the Guards Band would march down Barrack Street in the City & make their way to the Bandstand on Waterloo Park. I can now recreate that scene . Magic! BB

Sorry I ment to post this picture in the gap,but pressed the wrong button.

A street view of Honeywell a neat place set well in my concrete imagination of 1960,can now be finished off,and have the Guards Band marching along. BB

Actually these are not as bad as they appear on PSR. I have them primed and will paint up the Scots next. I bought the French artillery for the six command figures, the heavy gun and the guy waving his hat can double as a flag bearer for other units.

I bought this re-released boxed set. I mainly bought more of them to justify the postage cost involved with my main order below.

I always feel good when buying these,a compulsive disorder perhaps.

I managed to buy these today too.

They are infact the old AIRFIX Set,and in my opinion the best Napoleonic figures they ever produced in the year 1972.

( Now these are not going to be around for long,if you need them get them quick, because when their licence to produce them expires, I doubt if HUMBROL that has bought out Hornby recently, will grant another.
Hornby owned several large toy companies, one being AIRFIX. So Humbrol is the Big Daddy now of them all.
The knock on effect of this take over, has resulted in new sets ,and re- released sets that were already retooled being canceled, and many job losses too, especially with the Staff at Hornby. )

I do of course have several of the AIRFIX Boxed sets in my Toy Collection, but they are far to rare these days untouched & still in their boxes, and therefore not for painting. I remember the craziness of a couple of years ago on E Bay where one original boxed set sold for £70 plus. So I`ll paint these new re- released ones up and mainly use the Gun & Gunners. BB

BTW it would appear relevant to ask how you clean flash off figures.

I've seen the add about buying loose sprues for quite some time now and now I decided to try them. So one sprue of Hät 8299 Zulu War British Command. And we will see what happens. Haven't opened my big package yet so can't buy more than that one sprue.

Donald,
I was actually surprised that the level of flash and mold lines was not as bad as I would have thought. My X-Acto blade is sufficient for trimming. I was disappointed that most of the musket stands did not fully mold. I will start a new post on the "works in progress" page so you can see what I mean. If it makes you feel any better about their quality (you obviously being a Scotsman) I plan on using them as an Royalist Irish unit for my upcoming ECW battle. ;-) ;-)

Waited quite a while for these to become available, I reviewed them ages ago it seems.
I bought two boxes.

Three Boxes of supply wagons for use with the Strelets figures above, and they will also double up on Napoleonic scenes with the rest of the Zvezda French rolling stock which they compliment well.
I bought one 14 years ago,and wished I`d bought more after seeing how they looked. Since that time these became very hard to buy at a reasonable price, now suddenly they are affordable again at Modelhobbies at £6.29. I Went on E Models first, but they would only let me have one.____________
So they lost the sale.

Hopefully use all these with the Tecumseh 1812 set . BB

As I'm discovering, one of the great things about this period is that many units can be used for all sorts o different armies. Once I've finished my Swedish TYW I may embark on a Covenator's army.

Sometimes dreams of doing stuff in the Hobby is somewhat dashed because one is let down by a Seller on E Bay. This happened to me. The AIRFIX Colour Guard failed to turn up in the Mail. So I have to wait for my money to be refunded by E Bay. So it will take a while before it is in my E Bay Account.

However good news guys I managed to win & buy another in Mint Condition. It is the one shown above.
£ 51.00 paid for it so dreams don`t come cheap, but looking on the bright side I have £30 to be refunded. So I look at it like this money spent is just that, and so I only really had to pay another £21.00. So my plans can go ahead after all. BB

I have just been informed by E Mail from E Bay,that they have refunded my money for the item above.
So I have now placed `bifben` on my special not to buy from file. In the mean time oddly he now has nothing for sale on his E Bay Site. One of E Bay rules protected under international law on trading: money back guarantee. BB

My Airfix Guards Colour Party arrived today super quick as if by Uncle Ned`s "TIME MACHINE!"
However there was not a full set of marching soldiers. There were two sets included in Mint condition in the one box. Wow! I have 78 marching Guards & 4 Guards on sentry duty with the sentry boxes.
Fortune is indeed smiling upon me,and it is sweet. BB
