You should post some more references or rephrase what you're asking Tom because this is the only plate that shows green in stead of black. Not a very fair poll. :-D

The problem after all is the colors used by the artist, I think he was a bit tired or something when he painted it (joke), they're black

With dark greys and dark greens you can play with black colours.

Sorry I don`t fully realise what the question is here. Is the question simply," Are the uniform`s in these pictures green,or black?" Perhaps being colour blind might well be the reason behind such a question!

That is the question

In some lights it (top pics) Looks greenish but that could be either;
1. my eyes or the Settings on the monitor
2. The highlighting (blue or green being common highlights for black)

but certainly not colourblindness which is the inability to distinguish between red-green or blue-yellow.

The legion was equipped with British army materiel, arms and uniforms captured at the unsuccessful Franco-British Landings at Quiberon. The red British uniforms were dyed, with various degrees of success, a brown/black colour from which the unit got its nickname

From ; Fishguard Fiasco: An account of the last invasion of Britain J.S. Kinross
Under his command was La Seconde Legion des Francs, more commonly known as Légion Noire ("The Black Legion") due to their use of captured British uniforms dyed very dark brown/black

It´d be interesting to see what the result of dying red with black dye (depending on what type of dye was used) would give.

Well that explains the different colours seen on the pictures.
Thanks Paul

Strange Thing is...if you look up the question "why does black look green " or similar, there are loads of Forum polls that give a 50/50 result

And if you see that there are just 10 hits in all it suggests that nearly nobody is interested in the subject....

Now this has seriously gone off Topic but for starters
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt32162.html
and before the "there´s still only 16 People who voted" etc Comes, this is just the first of many such polls concerning the black/green question, I found that have the result 50/50 or 49/51.

Sorry, did not mean to offend you in any way, infact the reason for my question was I understand fully about colour blindness, because I am colour blind and so I always need advice concerning what colour`s model soldiers should be painted in.Reading the other comment`s here it`s interesting to see that it is a 50-50 split answer to your question Black or Green? Which go`es to prove perhaps we all need help at times with colour`s. More interesting and is food for thought, is the fact if you mixe red & black as was suggested in one reply, you get a very dark purple!

But I've no colour-blindness... I have glasses and therefor I visit sometimes a doctor... and I have no problems with the colours :-)

But I understand your opinion and reasons.

And I think we should close these thread, because it gives different opinions about colours and the painting from miniatures.
