A feeling of a Deja Vu

Am I the only one getting a slight feeling of deja vu concerning the terrible civil war in Libya? The opposing sides are fighting back and forth across the Libyan desert, with places such as Benghazi, Tobruk and Tripoli mentioned in the news. Somehow I get the feeling that it's not the first time...wonder why..

Nope, no deja vu here, don't think the Libyans ever fought a civil war in those places before during the existence of the country.

I'm more or less angry about the twisted morale that our governments are showing.

Ghaddafi orders his men to shoot his own people=wrong=western coalition forces are throwing bombs until the rebels win.
Al-Bashir orders his men to shoot his own people=whatever=western governments don't give a **** about it for more than a decade
Jonathan orders his men to shoot his own people=who dares to protest=the Niger delta problem only concerns some journalists and leftist grumblers

If what the 'coalition' is doing in Lybia is rightful for the cause of human rights and for supporting the peoples' right for democracy, they would have to bomb more than twenty other nations as well. Again, it sniffs like it's all about oil, ressources and controlling the stream of African refugees that are heading for good old Europe.

I wasn't thinking of a libyan civil war as deja vu but the presence of an armed conflict in the libyan desert that is sailing back and forth (so far) in a similar fashion as the desert war during ww2. As a military history nerd interested in the desert battles between the axis and allies, the present conflict inevitably draws a special attention.
Let's just hope the suffering for the libyan people ends as soon as possible.

We therefore ask people not to discuss politics on this forum. It's OK to compare current situations with previous happenings in history or to discuss history. Just don't discuss politics. Thanks!
