here I'd like to hold it and spend a moment to praise the english language -without it we wouldn't be able to have such a great and easy communication about our hobby all over the world!
I also think the level is pretty high-especially by its nativespeakers

Yes, you are absolutely right Erik, but sometimes I have some problems with translating some "special" sayings and phrases of our English native speakers. But it is very interesting to learn.

First I thought, this would go me on the alarm clock or it would be sausage to me. Perhaps even it would pass my bottom but widely missed. No master falls from the sky and what Hänschen is not able to learn, Hans will never learn.
(This happens when German sayings are translated 1:1 to English)

Well to be honest I come out with that kind of Gibberish all the time so I wouldnt worry about it to much...just speak louder and wave your hands about a bit we'll all get there in the end .........and I am meant to be a native speaker

I'm rather glad it's an English forum too. My German is poor, my French and Spanish worse and my Dutch and Chinese non-existant. I hope everyone will make allowances for that when I visit their countries next.

Since I'm a minority here I'm also happy this is in English, though sometimes my English is from old blues records and Mickey Mouse comics (from the 30s ) . But Remco says he understands the Swedish chef so I don't think there would be a problem if I started to write in Swedish.

italian sometimes is difficult to translate in english..
we have to many words for the same things..
but if there is not the worldwide knowledge of english we can speak latin..
the old universal language of the west world..

try this one. I work all day speaking german, taking on over the years the sayings and idioms of the german language. I come home, my wife and son speak English to me but my daughter has insisted that she will only speak german at all times. Then I come on the forum and have to write in English with a german styled keyboard, and sometimes think a sentence out in german and have to translate it into english.
I appreciate anyones difficulty with writing english when it´s not their first language.
(and there I wrote 2x ENGLISCH and corrected it !!!! NURSE !!!! NURSE !!!!! WHERES MY TABLETS???? )

Often when I speak Italian to my wife's family I say things that reduce them to laughter. Worst is my habit of making up words: "caro" for "autovettura".

So the word "bod" wasn't known by me, and although I had an idea what this could mean (or thinking it was a short form as well) I looked it up in an online dictionary.
The only result: biochemical oxygen demand.
In a second I found an other translation, something like freak... Seemed better to me

Bod = Little man, a term from my time wearing green, the bigger a bod was the more rank he had.
