Pfff...Episode 4 in the US this week, 1st episode in dutch tv...and for French tv....nothing before Christmas...I HATE FRENCH TV...

Veronica started out as a pirate radio station, broadcasting from a ship on the North Sea, then they became part of the public TV networks and for a couple of years now, they have their own commercial channel.

And the most irritating thing on French and even German TV stations, you'll never see a movie with the orioginal voices. They all dub them

Funnily, I read that through my blurred eyes as John Wayne clubbed
What would that sound like I wonder??

OK, this really makes me wonder
A german mate, work colleague or whatever will come up and say, "have you seen the pirates of the carribean?" (for example) " I really like that johnny depp"

To me this always seems odd because;
1, the person saying it inevitably will not be able to speak english well enough to have watched the film in english. Why not, nor would I bother to watch a film in German if I can avoid it, nothing against the language it´s just "easier" for moi.
2. The voice over for johnny depp is not johnny depp but someone else, who, puts a different "tone" on the voice, making it so unlike johnny depp, that no-one can say after seeing a german (or whatever apart from it´s original language version) dubbed version of Pirates of the carribean (for example) that they think the really like Johnny depp.

This is the same for all films were the original was one language and it´s dubbed into another language but the actors for some unexplainable reason become famous. Spaghetti westerns for example. the good the bad and the ugly. german,Spanish and dubbed into english. It made Clints career!!! (he´s got a face like an old scrotum now eh?)

I mean, has anyone ever heard the p**s poor voice they give johnny depp in most of his films (the german dubbed one) ??
Nothing like his real voice.

@Paul: I like a film in his original way, with the right voices. Here in Belgium, you know we have three parts, only in Flanders they give the original movies with subtitles. In the French and German speaking parts of Belgium they dub them as well.

This for example, the voice that basil´s got in the dubbed version, manuels is pretty good.

I agree fully that English programs dubbed in German or French sound awful, thankfully, in the Netherlands, only children's programs get dubbed. Which also sounds horrible.

But what surprises me most in that in Flemish TV, you add subtitles to programs from the Netherlands

I mean, I could understand it if we did that with Flemish programs, but Dutch is easier to follow as Flemish, so why on earth the subtitles?

Serious Maurice, sometimes I don't understand it myself why they do that. I can understand it when they talk for example "Fries". We can do what we want, but only when you live there you can understand that language (BTW I find that a very nice language ). I think they put subtitles for the same reason as Dutch TV for the Flemish programs, "dialects". And the time we all looked at the Dutch TV for the great shows and quizs is long gone. The best programs are on the comercial TV stations.
