XVI century Knights for DBA

Posted by XbriX on 04 Aug 2023, 09:30

Hello, I'm back with some more 1/72 scale figures. I managed to paint a set of Dark Dream Studio European Knights, based for DBA (60x40mm bases this time!).
Eleven mounted figures in total, letting me use them as three elements of Knights and an element of Light Horse (mounted crossbowmen). One of the knights got himself a somewhat more ornate horse, so he could pass for a general if needed.
In addition, I painted a Cistercian monk from Linear Age of Tudor set. Hope you like the photos (of varying quality must be said :-D ).

Nice job! Do you have a particular army that you are building, or are these just general-purpose Knights?

Thank you! These are just generic European knights. I don't currently build any XVI century armies to be honest.
Still, this figures would be useful if I ever do one. I might do something like the Italian Wars or Polish-Lithuanian eastern expansion. Battle of Orsha (1514) would make a fun DBA scenario :)

Great knights! A very good set by Dark Dream Studio, and a nice paintjob, what more could we expect ? Oh yes, a Cistercian monk to bring the furious knights back to peace. Congratulations!

Excellent work but unfortunately the background is working against you.

I use a black background to display items and you might find it beneficial for yours.

Best wishes,

Chris

Wonderful knights, XbriX, just like the monk.

The last one would had been a nice addition to my "Swiss Guard, Pope and Cardinals" diorama, still in the making. :( http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=22759

Wow finally get to see these painted! They look really fun. and your painting really does it justice. Honestly though I want more pics and closer ups, there is a lot of great detail that is hard to see.

Where is the last night?

Very nice. Some really nice colours chosen which work very well!

If you don't mind me asking, this last photo shows a little bubbling effect around the face, arm and tunic-was this caused by using a matt varnish?

That seems to be the case. I'm using Vallejo matt varnish. It's unfortunate, but I don't mind too much. It's not nearly as visible in person as it is on photo.

I use vallejo matt varnish and occasionally mine do that as well-strange! It doesn't detract from your work though, which looks excellent!
