Early Germans army for DBA

Posted by PhilC on 24 Jul 2023, 15:15

Good evening fellow forumers!

As announced at the end of the topic dedicated to the Early Imperial Roman army, it is now time to show one of their main opponents, the Early Germans.

They are based for DBA, which means that I only need 12 elements to play. The figures come from different manufacturers, such as ESCI, Strelets, Hät, Caesar, and even a figure from the Celts set by Revell - some of them, with the round shields in particular, look like Germans.
Most of them are grouped in a warband, as you can see here:

This group includes the general on foot - close-up:

There is also an element of skirmishers: 2 figures by ESCI, one of them is converted.

And last, some cavalry:

What do you think of them ? In a clash between Romans and Germans, what would you bet ?

Depends on the terrain. Are the Romans in a long column marching through the forest?

I love your early Germans. Very dynamic and colorful and displaying your usual mastery of depicting bare skin.

I think Warbands win most times versus Blades in DBA. Fantastic armis Phil, congrats.

I can only think that this Early German army looks wonderful and terrifying, Phil. You have done a very clever mix with the Caesar, Esci, Hät, Revell ans Strelets figures and superb painting on all of them. I especially love the foot Command group. :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:

My sincere congratulations, admired colleague!

Santi.

Yes they are, that's what they do in any movie representing legionaries

Indeed ? I would have sworn that the EIR was impossible to beat... but I'm stuck with DBA 2.0, maybe something changed with the 3.0 ?

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that the general himself is a Linear-A figure, so 6 manufacturers! Thank you for mentioning it, I have edited my post.

As far as I know, the Roman army has still the highest win-ratio of all armies in the world so far... so I think my money is on the Romans.

Anyway, these are some splendid-looking Germanic warriors. Awesome work! :yeah:

A great looking horde of hairy Germans !! I really like the look of these 'barbarians', and the way you have mixed up figures from different manufacturers to create a very interesting and accurate-looking warband.

Fine basing and painting too. Great work!

As everyone else has mentioned you certainly have assembled a pretty intimidating bunch of warriors. All beautifully painted and based. In answer to your question regarding the winners in a scrap with some Romans i think you’d need to at least double the size of your force before getting to grips with a Roman army. In all honesty I’d say what you have is more of a war band rather than an army.
Ps/ My favourites are your leader and the last two cavalry figures. Splendid stuff.

Hmm, maybe not if they want to stay alive  As k.b. points out, my army is only a modest warband, and, as far as I remember, your own legions are VERY numerous and impressive!
