Work in Progress

SAS and LRDG

Posted by Peter on 14 Jul 2023, 21:48

Here is some work in progress of me. The jeep is a 3D print from Martin. Figures are Strelets and the sitting one is from Matchbox.

This will be a LWPP for me. ;-)

Good job Peter, maybe you can add some equipment on the jeep. I think the LRDG has to be prepared for a long distance in the desert. 8)

Excellent! At first sight, I thought they were 1/32. I particularly like the guy with the binoculars.
I've tried to paint some old 1/32 AIrfix 8th army soldiers these last months, but I don't know how to make a proper color for their uniforms. What reference do you use ?
And what is a LWPP ?

Whichever color you pick, bleach it down several shades with off white or bone color or Iraqi sand if you can't find those. The desert was a harsh environment and factory fresh tunics quickly became a ghost of themselves.

Thanks Jan!
I must have a look in my sparebox if I can find some equipment. ;-)

This is how i painted the jeep. First basecolor sand, then a sepia wash and then a ot of drybrushing with Vallejo Iraqi Sand. That's how you get that pale color. Reference is mostly what I found on WWW but also with other models from collegues. And 3 comic books about the history of this unit, that I have in my collection. ;-) What I learned is that the SAS had no specific uniform on the terrain. That is why I use random colors.
LWPP is a little joke of me with the title of this topic in mind. Long Way Painting Project!

Hello Peter

The figures are painted accurately, but I don't like the colours. The short of the officer is too dark for me. The socks were light tan green. They were sand coloured.Maybe you can change that.
The jeep really needs more armour.an idea for figures:
Model a white headscarf, most of the soldiers wore beards. About the colours. I often orientate myself on Miniart.com in 1:35 figure packs. Choose the right figures, click on the product, then you will often find the building instructions with painting suggestions. With houses also with street signs etc. to make smaller and print out in 1:72 suitable.
Please don't get me wrong, this is just my opinion.
Best wishes
Jürgen

Concerning 3d printing, is LWPP the use of plastic? :coffee: BB

I agree, these rugged little vehicles need to have a lot of kit and equipment if they are about to go out on a mission. Nice work so far :yeah:

Thank you Jürgen! Figures with headscarfs are on the painting table, so they are on their way. Don't know yet if I will change the uniforms colors because I read they often wore what they could get their hands on. The jeeps are 3D printed and I have only one with a gun on it. I'm looking in my collection of figures for a solution to handle that problem. Thanks for your advice about the website of Miniart.
