Benno's 2009 College Football Tracker

With all apologies to Cole...we can't continue our discussion about this years football season under an A Hee Hee titled thread.

Today it starts in earnest...the first Saturday of the 2009 College Football Season (AKA the 2009 SEC football season). Games started Thursday night, and with Monday being a holiday...they'll run til Monday night. The best Three Day Weekend on the calendar.

At the moment, the only game of interest under way is ohio state university v. the Naval Academy. The military academies are cool because the teams are made of officer candidates for each branch (the Navy players either have a Navy logo on their shoulder or a Hoo RAH Marine Corps emblem). Highly touted athletes rarely go because they're required to serve two years in the military.

As I type...the score is TIED 7 - 7! Navy just scored a touchdown!

Final Score ohio state 31 - Navy 27.

Next up...Georgia Bulldogs v. oklahoma state.

Well the "A Hee Hee" is playing a lot today as well. Georgia Tech just beat up on Jacksonville State: 37-17, Boston College destroyed Northeastern 54-zip, and several other games are in progress now. Scores soon!

Baylor squeezed over Wake Forest: 24-21, Clemson started off well with a 37-14 win over Middle Tennessee, and....ahem.. North..gulp..Carolina..gulp....beat Citadel (???): 40-6, The shocker of the day! William and Mary beat up on Virginia!!! 26-14!!! And, Duke is starting off normally with a loss to Richmond: 24-16, Maryland was humiliated by California: 52-13, And poor Virginia Tech lost to Alabama: 34-24.
Next up is Monday night football, with the biiig rivalry of Miami and Florida State! 8)

Yes the Gators had a scrimmage with Charleston Southern last weekend...62-3. I'm pretty sure there was a scheduling snafu on that one. I think it was supposed to be South Florida.

Anyway...it was a pretty good weekend last week. Including a barn burner between two teams that have no respect for defense, special teams, or much else...that would be miami and florida state. The stoopid crimenoles couldn't score a touchdown from the four yard line. And again this year, it seems that despite all my pleading and praying, chicken bones burned in the flames of purple candles...it is still not possible for two teams to lose the same game.

One problem though...the officiating has been the worst I've seen in years. Thursday night, Clemson got screwed prison-style.

Today's got some good games...for me Tennessee v UCLA and Georgia v South Carolina are the most anticipated. For the dinasours...it's notre dame and michigan...for those that are fascinated by train-wrecks and other grotesque scenes...it's ohio state v. usc.

If any of y'all are interested, the Gators will be playing on ESPN 360 today. I know in the past some of the internet telecasts have been limited to the U.S. Don't know if that the case with the ESPN site.

http://espn.go.com/broadband/espn360/index

They're playing Troy...small University in Alabama...they've had some decent teams in the past, but they're no powerhouse. If the Gators struggle today...it'll be a bad sign.

They shouldn't though.

Hehe, N.C. State hammered Murray State (fcs), 65-7.
Next week should be similar. Their big time to shine will come in two weeks when they take on Pittsburgh.

Me and the missus both had Miami in our pick 'em...we also picked all the same teams for today. So, I volunteered to change a few of mine.

I now have michigan state over notre dame and...as much as it pains me....f$u over byu.

Today used to be a big day...before Tennessee became a laughing stock monument to SUCK! Oh well should be fun anyway.

Pretty scary moment last night for Tim Tebow. Didn't know if he was gonna get up or not...some haven't.

Fortunately, it's just a concussion. S**t's dangerous.

Gators went ahead and rocked 'em anyway.

Yeah, I hope he's better for next week's game vs. LSU.

The big stuff in the ACC was Georgia Tech's crushing of UNC: 24-7 ( ), BC's OT win over Wake Forest: 27-24, and VT's defeat of Miami: 31-7. 8)

The s**t gets real real here in about 15 minutes.

Your number one ranked, defending national champion, Florida Gators are about to take the field against the 4th ranked LSU Bayou Bengals. Both teams are undefeated.

The latest development in the saga concerning history's most talked about concussion is that Tebow has been cleared, by the doctors, to play. How much he'll play and in what capacity we still don't know...how much of an affect it'll have on the game, we won't know for another three hours.

With or without Tebow, this is what the Gators face...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XVrM8dSAtu4&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XVrM8dSAtu4&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

You hear right...they caused an earthquake. The place is insane...I've seen it in person. They haven't lost a game, at home, on a Saturday night in 32 games.

Tonight's the NIGHT...Go Gators B**tches!!!!
