My latest purchase is this fine ship made by Mr. Cryns, which should be familiar from this
thread here. Some quick pics, just for demonstration purposes:
There are several reasons why I like this model very much, besides its nice overall design:
1) It is a waterline model, which suits the needs of the diorama builder.
2) It came together with accessories, i.e. the cargo, which can make the final result much livelier. I really don’t like it when some of the larger companies sell you a “nude” ship without any extras.
3) It belongs to a general type of ship that was quite common in antiquity, but is not elsewhere available as a model at all. In Roman times, this design would more or less correspond to the ship type called “corbita” (“little basket”).
4) At about 14 cm length of the model, the ship would measure some 10 meters in reality. The size will be ideal for river transport, which is the diorama idea that I will probably realize using this model. The rather modest size will be a nice contrast to the significant larger ship that I used
elsewhere – I don’t like the idea of doing essentially the same diorama twice (so it will be definitely not Colonia Ulpia Traiana, modern Xanten, again).
