Here in Duisburg there is only a modelrailway shop selling the mainstream things like zvezda, revell, italeri stuff. Quite expensive but better then nothing. When it comes to Eldorado I have to call Tom (Tjeromeke). and travel to wuppertal for some shopping and chatting. When I was junger nearly everyone semms to have airfix/atlantic and all that. Even some small DIY stores had Matchbox soldiers and Aircraft.

Hi,
In the Netherlands it's all the same.
For 20Y ago a lot of shops sold figs, tanks and airplanes.
These shops went into franchise formulas and then there are no sentimental rules: just turnover per meter/foot/yard shelf.
And modelling doesn't sell as good as games for playstation or PC.
So they got rid of those stuff.
That gave us webshops a hole in the market to jump in.
It is not because the webshops killed the market, it is the too low profit compared to other products that did it IMHO.

Hi Flash1871: as a matter of interest, just how far afield did your unsuccessful shopsearch take you? In neighbouring counties (just up the road in US terms...) there used to be a reasonable shop in Salisbury and an excellent one in Frome. Not been to either for a year or two, so I'm wondering if they're worth a detour next time I'm down that way.
There also used to be a great model shop in Warminster, but that shut a few years back, although I managed to get several HaT sets at half price in their closing-down sale.
The situation can't be all due to the financial climate, as expensive die-cast models and ready-built radio-control jobs seem to be thriving.

G'day guys,

A familiar story around the globe. Only one model/hobby store in the city which mostly has RC stuff. Used to have a good selection of the commoner brands of 1/72 figures like Revell, Italeri and Hat but haven't updated stock for ages.

The only reliable supplier was an online store that has just gone belly up based in Sydney. What to do? the Aussie dollar is not strong enough against other currencies so postage from overseas is prohibitive unless ordering in bulk.

However all is not lost I've just struck gold. Found a suburban shop on the weekend that does not have a website. Remember those days when you had to find stuff in the telephone book? . It was like an Aladdins' Cave and a treasure trove of 1/72 figures including some of the more obscure brands. Not only that but it had stuff such as Perry Miniatures and the new Victrix Napoleonics stuff in 28mm too  Found out they have been around in one form or another for the last 35 years.

Naturally I did the right thing and supported my new found supplier by buying the whole damn shop out including an airbrush and compressor

Hope you guys are lucky like me and find a way through the demise of the model shop crisis

G'day Fent,

The airbrush came as a package by "Delta". More than likely a cheap knockoff of better brands such as Iwata and Badger but for $400 complete I'm not complaining.

The brush is dual action gravity fed with 0.3mm nozzle and seems sturdy enough. The compressor has all the bells and whistles such as a 3 litre tank, water trap and easy to use regulator with auto stop valve. Couldn't justify spending more than that when just getting in to it. If it works OK I can always buy a better branded brush down the track.

Surely there's somewhere in Melbourne you can get a compressor without breaking the bank?

Forgot to even look for Mig Productions stuff can you believe that
I'll be back down there soon for sure.

Cheers
