Hi guys, these are a few 28mm Blue Bellys` & Johnny Rebs` by the Perry twins,I painted a few years ago. They have been shown on this Forum before ,and this is not a repeat as such ,because I am going to add Quickshade to these guys ,and their horses too.I need to practice using this stuff rather than not use it,because Mrs B, bought this for me, and I don`t believe in waste.
So I hope for some they will find this interesting, and perhaps it might even help others who are considering such action.
Like the 20mm HAT figures I recently used this stuff on,these are expendable, and not that important in my collection. So if I mess these up, it to me will be no great loss. I will simply repaint them.

The picture above shows a 25mm metal Napoleonic soldier, which I just painted, and this Quickshade stuff is a killer for gold, and made it look like terracotta.

Mrs B, says "He looks ceramic, and is cute! So leave him as he is"
I believe she has claimed it for another ornament. Trouble is I have a box of them. There are times when you`ve just got to smile.BB

By the look of the Napoleonic figure, you dunked him into the quickshade, and maybe didn't shake off the excess? I found that wastefull (being a tight git) and that stuff ain't cheep.

Suggest you use a brush to put it on, that way at least you can control the amount that goes on.

This is not meant to be a critisism, just a bit of advice from someone who has screwed up the same way ;-)

Thank you KGV,for your kind sound advice, I have decided on these topics to show everything, the Good the Bad and the Ugly side of this intrepid adventure with expensive stuff. Yes, this tiny fellow will brighten up again Folks. I am like a small child again using a brush with me Mits for the first time.

I think I might fix the figures onto my drill, and twirl this stuff off inside a cardboard box.
I`ve seen it done on You Tube! However I also saw the same guys advice on dipping a figure.
My! My! I have so much to learn.

Being a disabled little fellow I cannot shake it off using my arms, they would simply try and fly off.
I could use my own mix ,but I really want to master the Art of Glob! ............................Along the way make others Smile ,Laugh or even Cry. To Laugh along with someone is much better than laughing at them. A proverb by Paul Howes .

This was before trimming!

What you see above in the picture is after painting and the Glob! The Funny thing is you should have seen this fellow before I added light to the photo. Go on Laugh it is quite all right. BB

I prefer to use Windsor & Newton Nut Brown ink...but only on face and hands!
And washes out in water so nice and easy!

Yes Ragnar thank`s for the ink mention, I do have lots of the ink colours, and paints that I will water down and apply in layers when I paint other figures. However the cavalry have all been painted in enamel paint.

I have just ordered more acrylic paint in tubes, because all the screw on tops are awkward and painful to open for me. I have very little grip to my hands and Mrs B would kill me if one slipped out of my hands and went all over the floor. So I am hoping events will turn out fine with these tubes and that they will be easy on my fingers. If not I will have to decant all the paints into other containers which just flip open. I wonder ,just how many others there are who have similar problems with paints?

Image

Enamal paint fits snug into my scratch built holder which I made years ago especially for them, and a spoon just simply open`s them up without any pain to my fingers. I designed it so it would be near impossible for me to knock it over, and Blu tac fixes it firmly to make sure. The screw open things are to the left in the picture. BB

I mixed my own stuff up,and applied it yesterday on the whole batch of 36 horses and men,and I quite like these now, and might leave them now as they are,but do work on the bases now and make them look better. These now remind me of the early Britains stuff.

Just Randomly placed on the horses.

I decided these were not worth ruining putting that dark Quickshade on after all, because I would destroy to much hard work put in on these guys in shaping them first,( Gluing Up! ) then painting them. These will go on a display shelf with other stuff from that period. BB

Thank you MABO, for your kind comment. I as an Aged P,I have time a plenty on my hands, but I am never bored because I have my writing, and research work and then I have my deep passion for modelling, and painting in this hobby. Often, quite often it takes ages of painting to finish whatever it is I am doing, however I am never in a rush ,and things when they come together often make it look like a lot of work, when in fact it really is not. These were some of the first things that I have worked on in 5 months. A break from painting has been a good rest for me,but now I want to paint again especially on my new collections. The scratch building will continue too,but I`m waiting for my right hand to heal up completely before I can start cutting stuff up again. So I am managing to do a little painting while this is taking place which is great. BB
