AW Miniatures Peninsular Brits

Posted by Seb Palmer on 24 Jul 2014, 11:47

Hello all

I'm about to start painting a pack - 24 figures - of AW Miniatures Peninsular British line infantry, that I bought a couple of years ago. Can anyone enlighten me as to organisation: I looked on the AW Miniatures website, and the unit I have is illustrated there, which is potentially very helpful.

http://www.awminiatures.co.uk/store/category.php?id=179

But I wondered how the battalion breaks down: is it 8 x 3 fix companies, or 4 x 6 fig companies? I usually do French and Russian stuff, where I know the usual numbers/organisation, and have my own way of setting about it.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the Brits had (on paper, at any rate) 10 companies. And do they, like the French, have different plumes and/or facings, etc, for different companies?

I did spend about an hour researching this on the interweb before posting here, but I was just getting steadily more confused. As it stands it looks like I'll spend all my precious painting time trawling the web at this rate!

Thanks in advance for any help offered!

Regards

In the end I found a few pages on the web (notably not via Wikipedia!), and discovered that yes, the Brits had 10 coy battalions; eight battalion coys, 1 gren & 1 light.

You guys probably all knew that already. I've spent almost all of my wargaming life more interested in Russia vs. France tho'!

This does make AW's 24 fig pack a bit odd tho, at least to my mind': two men per coy seems too little (and leaves figures over), and yet there aren't enough figs for 10 coys of three... hmm!? Or do they do separate flank coy fog pack? I'll have a look.

In the meantime I'll probably do what AW appear to have done on their website, and organise them as 8x3, simply painting them all as the battalion coys, and perhaps add the flank coys later.

Cheers
