jus`t tthought it would be fun for people to post photos of past ´attempts´ of models, that didn´t meet up to wishes or were complete failures, here´s one of mine, 33 years old, can´t even remember what regiments they are supposed to represent, note the wonderfull use of gloss paint, ahh, happy days

In my past I did many that turned out like that (or much worse), but they've all since had an appointment with a plastic bag full of oven cleaner.

Maybe the painting style is not up to nowaday's standards but I still see some very nice and creative conversions, all from the old Airfix Waterloo sets. I always think maybe today's immense output of figure sets for all tastes and purposes is destroying much of our creative potential.

I especially like the Nassau standard bearer: British hussars head, British infantry body, and flag (and right arm?) from a French infantry standard bearer. Properly painted this would still make a very nice figure imho.

Completely right Je_touche. And the figures on the left we can recognize as Bavarian troups, made of French infantry and artillery with heads of British artillery!
Friend Paul, you've started young with conversions ;-)

Hi,
Me too.
First I played with them (Airfix ones, what else was there..)
Later came the trying to paint phase.
No figures survived, alas nothing to show from that time.

I painted my first plastic soldiers at age eleven or so, using Airfix paints (good riddance...) and a TOOTHPICK... (no pics available, sorry). I did not prime them. Since Airfix Waterloo figs came in a light yellow plastic I thought that was fair enough to represent skin colour...

Then I used clear gloss water soluble varnish to make the colour more durable because after all I wanted to play with the figs. I was extremely annoyed that the colour kept coming off the figs... Thinking about it that was the main reason why I gave up dealing with plastic figs for a very long time. I was not pleased with the lack of historical accuracy either (yes, that was indeed important for me when I was 13  ).

Sadly, I have none of my old stuff anymore, got rid of it years ago, when it was not a hobby. Think I threw them away, very sad thing to do, if i think about it now... :? :(

But my painting style was pretty much the same as above, just fill everything in with a basic color and finished.

More old stuff

The bod second from the left was supposed to be reaching for a new mag (even though he´s still got on in the mp) and the 3rd from the left has a pin for a panzerfaust. I loved those forage caps in those days

I found these from 2003 when I first started painting in my computer archives. Glossy enamel, yum yum.

They're named because I painted them to use in a Role Playing Game I was running.

Note the use of the "sexy" cardboard bases...
