Miniart Spartan Hoplite 1/16

Posted by Kekso on 10 Oct 2013, 15:47

I started this figure 6 months ago and I didn't finish it yet. Fortunately, I've saved some wip photos so I can post it here now and then (to look like I'm really working on it :-D ).

This is box content.

Some closeups what's on sprue.

Assembling... Miniart figures are well known for its poor fit of parts. As you can
see, every joint needed to be filled with putty:

Very nice to see. I've been looking at some of these at the toystore (well, it's closed now so I don't have to drole (aargh! my computer can't spell drole! :angry3: ) there anymore, now I can drool (now it worked! :-D ) here! Looking very much forward to the continuation on this. And agree with Peter. And thanks for removing all the blood on that picture! :-D

Me too, even if it is not my scale. I think the way you´ve placed the head looks better than on the box art

This is how I've painted torso and head:

I didn't bother with face too much because he will wear a helmet. Shades on breastplate are too sharp so I gave it another thin layer of bronze color to smooth it out. It will be visible in later photos.

Looks great so far Dalibor

Strange, one moment he is in one piece and the next post he lost his arms and legs again!

Good observation Peter. But look up my previous post... I wrote temporary assembled. It would be almost impossible to paint figure if it was fully assembled... :-D

Thanks Ben90, but as you can see I turned it other way after all. Fit of figure and torso is much better when head looks on its right. And position of head is guided by helmet too...

Awesome work thus far. Looking at the pre build pics it looks as if this could be a real pain to assemble. You obviously overcame any issue with that. I would have to say the painting to this point is really fantastic. Love the face and the bronze so far. Looking forward to seeing this completed!

Next phase:

Legs, shin guards, sandals and inner part of shield are painted in basic colors.
And I was working on helmet a bit more than on the other parts.
