scratch building ammunition strips

My MG42 and MG34 crews are in need of more belt-fed ammunition strips. I could canabilize some off of other figures, naturally, but I hope to avoid doing so, if I can. Anyone have a cheap and easy way to simulate ammunition belts for 1:72 scale squads?

Thanks for the response guys. I suppose purchasing the mg strips would be easier in some ways.
