Officers Mess

Where are you?

Posted by Konrad on 06 Apr 2009, 16:47

Now we have more than 190 members here in the forum.
If each of ourselves in the month a picture postet, we had to see an amount of works.
Maybe many think, they would not be good enough.
Or they are laughed.
I would like to encourage everything to show her works.
You are not bad.
And nobody laughs here.
We have started everything once small.

I agree with Konrad, the more painted figures we see the better. I'm not afraid to post my stuff here, because I know I will get constructive feedback. That's one of the strengths of this forum. We're here to learn from each other and enjoy each others' work.

I can't tell you how much I've learned about figure painting since joining this forum. I hope that once Benno gets the website back up that we can expand on the tutorial section, I think that would be really helpful. Or maybe we could move all tutorials to a tutorial thread in the forum. What do you guys think?

Now if only I could learn to paint a little faster ... :oldman:

Agree with all friends above. Communication and discussion are the source of progress, inspiration and passion. This is why we have, thanks to Benno's efforts, a forum instead of a simple gallery. ;-)

Hi Caveman:
You said you improved and I can only confirm that.
In the beginning your figs were simple painted :joker: :joker: (no one dared to say that  )
But now they are truely better.
Starters here in this forum:
Remarks together with :joker: means that we don't mean a word of what we are writing here (except when we write to Peter Caveman)
So don't be dis encouraged by the remarks here.
PLEASE POST YOUR FIGS.
We always are positive and sometimes we give opinions how things can be improved to look your figs be better even more!

My reason for not showing is a simple practical one. I have no camera... :(

Except of course for the crappy thing in my phone. Being dependent on public transport I have to travel 50km by train to my father to get photos, which is not something I do every week... but as soon as I find an affordable quality camera (second hand perhaps) I will buy it and post more photos here.

Hi Maurice,
For under € 50,- you can get a decent camera nowadays
(Aldi, Blokker etc)
Even in Fryslân they have these shops!

I agree with every sentiment expressed here.

I have spoken to Benno in the past about tutorials for the website proper when he gets it back up and running again. This would be a good source of inspiration for all of us and especially for beginners looking to improve their skills.

You must all bear in mind that someone has to write them in the first place  So any volunteers?

as it regards me this forum is what has allowed me to make "a difference in quality".
This hobby cannot be cultivated only in the loneliness of a room but it needs the comparison and this is the friendliest and encouraging place from whether to begin.
Without neglecting that also the worse (but when a thing is made with passion it always gives good fruits) job can give the stimulus or to furnish the idea to create something.

Unfortunately my English doesn't allow me to exactly say what I think but I hope that the message has arrived.

An affectionate regard to benno that he's having a good time

Spot on mate!

I have done one, with a new one to be added to the new site and another part done, but amongst everything else they do take some time like you say grumbler. But even if its a tutorial on making a tree from scatch it would be great.

So as the man says- please folks for every few things you do think about doing one for the site, I won't lie- it takes more effort to take pics as you go and write it up at the end, but someone will find it very beneficial.

But what is a good camera? Apparently mine is good, Olympus C-150, but try as I might the result turns out like this:

Hi Paul

Try taking the photo from a little further back to allow the camera to focus on the entire scene. The photo should be of a high enough quality that you can clip it down to a good size and still have a good image.

I know that some people swear by taking photos in the sunlight, but I can't do it, it makes the shadows too harsh (that might be a result of the harsh sunlight in this part of the world). Having multiple indirect sources of illumination can also help.

Cheers

True, it does take time to write tutorials.... I'm working on one at the moment. Took the pics, just need to write it up. I know I've seen at least three tutorials on this site before, I think two are on the forum and one was on the site (Benno's on painting faces).

There is also the grey horse painting one on the site, and I have a new one on the basics of a full figure paint job, start to finish.

I think Onria did one on his face painting in the forum too, and benno did one on the forum of taking photographs? what were the two you were thinking of Mark?

Instead of tutorials (might be better for the website) we could try build reports, from start to finish, with progress photos. But then really every stage of the build.

Anyway, got myself a camera  :jumping: :occasion:  :camera:

A Kodak EasyShare C613, 3x zoom, 6.2 megapixel, downprized from € 119,- for only € 39,-

Now to learn to make photos...
