Moving forwards in time

Posted by Gowan on 02 Feb 2012, 05:54

Hey recently I have found the world of the knights and ancients less exciting and inspiring :( . so I have decided to move forwards to post modernism. AKA 2020 or around that time. :-D though I still enjoy the stories of knights and/or romans I wanted to do something a little different. Change is good as they say 8).

Now a change like this requires alot of thought and I would like to know some tips and tricks to achieving good modern troops and scenery ;-)

I will finnish all models that were gifted to me.

Actualy I am trying to avoid doing a nation that could be too specific ;-) I don't wan't any of these- :angry3: :angry3: :angry3: I have bought some terrorists and US infantry but I intend to make the terrorists look like a generic Western rebelion or militia and the US soldiers into a near future army of some western nation.

The reason for the change was that my friend got a 1/72 scale kit for christmas. He is English too and living in NZ (there are alot of us, unoficial invasion  ) naturaly a Spitfire but if I can convince him to do some kits and I do some figs for a post modern setting I could finnaly be able to do some gaming. He likes modern stuff anyway so it is a cunning plan

Did you buy the Caesar figs? They're very nice.

There are two Caesar US moderns, one isn't so modern anymore. It represents US infantry around the 2003 period, while the newer one dates from 2008 and will still be appropriate for a few years. But if you have the Revell set, they are even older and date from the mid-90s Yugoslavian conflicts.

I got the 2008 set I feel that it would be appropriate for a generic western nation in about 2020. Besides the USA just like any other nation will quite happily pass on it's old kit to other nations. I have seen some of the more elite police forces in colombia have got what looks like old US helmets and armour of coarse they have up to date guns though

Yes here are some pics of elite police in Colombia. Their kit and uniforms are quite diverse.

Image

These are wearing typical light police armour on parade. Weapons visible in the front row are the M240 GPMG, the IMI Galil rifle, and the M32 Multiple Grenade Launcher, designated the RBG-6 in Colombia.

Image

This one is obviously in a real-life situation and is wearing old US M81 woodland camo, along with what appears to be an MICH helmet due to the open ears.

Image

The soldier closest to the photographer is wearing an old PASGT US helmet.

Image

All the helmeted soldiers in this photo are wearing the old PASGT, and the camo is the current Colombian Army Digital Pattern.

Thanks for the pics Winttrix, yes that is what I am talking about. I want my soldiers to represent one of the nations who recieved the current US kit once the USA no longer uses it. Howver alternativley it could represent with a bit of sculpting a future US army. But I am not too keen on the idea :angry2: the USA has enough wars now and it does not need any more in 1/72 scale

It's a pity you're not a little closer or I'd be up for some gaming. But Waiuku is a little to far south for an easy trip for either of us. I'm out West; I can see you from over the harbour though...
