and he does loads more...fractions etc...why didn´t they show us this at school??

very interesting Paul I seem to recall something like this, not taught in school, but a discussion I had with a math major back in college i forgot most of that by now until i saw both videos posted.

There was a programme on the radio recently (history of the world in 100 objects BBC 4) about very well off and well educated people having something similar to this device. I can´t remember what it was called but it was made of brass discs which you could set to markings on the sides and was as big as the palm of your hand...you could store info on it, do sums and find out where you where with it. There were different ones for different hemispheres..and about 20 still exist...I can´t remember what they were called though :boink:
