FOAM HOUSE WORKSHOP TOOL LIST
For those of you who like to join the foamhouse workshop at Figz 2017, here is a list of tools you should bring yourself:
The
25mm wide blade slide cutting snap off knife is the most important tool of all and you need at least two brand new sharp blades with it, otherwise the foam surface will get damaged. The 25mm size knife may be difficult to find in shops. If you order it online today, you will have it in time.
I use the
Stanley snap off blade cutter dynagrip 25mm myself.
Cost: 13 euro's.
There are also smaller sizes like 18mm and 9,5mm but that smallest one is useless for our massive foamblocks. The 18mm knife is fine for very small buildings. Of course its all about the length of that knife blade, not its width.
Apart from that you need:
- soft pencil (bleistift) for both drawing on the foam and engraving it
- transparent ruler (lineaal) to measure the rough shape on the foamblock
- screw driver medium size with flat head to sculpt foam surface
- small hobby knife for cutting windows and hollowing inner side of the building
And if possible bring also:
- a small square (winkelhaak) to measure the corners (not in the picture)
- large nail file (with foam or paper base) or grinding block to smoothen foam surface
- cutting board 30x40cm or larger to protect our tables
Don't forget to bring some pictures of the building you like to make.
And for the styrodur beginners amongst you I can recommend to start with a simple building.
Example of a house been cut out of one single block of styrodur foam WITHOUT the use of an electric thermo cutting wire machine:
