Camerone

Thought I'll get this in before tomorrow's anniversary date.....
I'm always on the lookout for French Foreign Legion items - one of my too many pet projects - and since there's quite logically many more of them in French than in other languages, I started looking a little further afield. In addition, one's French gets very rusty in America, where the average person might know 'bonndzhoor' or 'oo-la-la'....and not much more......so some practice is in order. André-Paul Comor's Camerone - 30 avril 1863 caught my eye, and after some searching, I even found a copy with a relatively reasonable price tag, even for the shipping from France. The book goes into quite a lot of detail, including the names of all French combatants, and should be a breeze to read for someone who reads French fluently. I still need a dictionary, it's been 25 years since I've tried to read something in French, but there aren't too many words in Camerone my Bantam New College dictionary doesn't know, despite being just a paperback. I'm (obviously) not qualified to comment on the literary merits of the book, let me get back to you on that after I've sunk my teeth into some Voltaire, Molière, Balzac, etc., but if you like detailed battle descriptions with a lot of supporting detail, I'd recommend this one.
