Polish lancers

Posted by braxat2000 on 05 Jul 2010, 14:15

Hi,
So I've got a box of zvezda polish napoleonic lancers, and I have a couple of questions.

1. What is that red color they're wearing, is it red or some sort of pink? or can I choose any of them?
I've searched the web for reference and I couldn't get it. I've got some flags from rofur flags and the color looks like dark red there..

2. I've got a peak at a new osprey book on polish lancers. In that book they wear black and red uniform instead of blue and red. Is this another option to paint them?

3. I also looked at the red lancers book from osprey.
Is it possible to paint these figures in red lancers uniforms? or is there a major conversion work to be done here?
(I hoped to get three types of uniforms out of this wonderful set).

4. Napoleonic uniforms are much more difficult to paint than WWII uniforms (including waffen ss camo), but they are a lot of fun to paint. Just an observation

Lots of thanks for helping me out,
Eyal.

1. the color is what is known as Polish Crimson, kind of pinkish hue tone.some paint manufacturers have it in their stock.

2. I believe you are referring to the 2nd Polish (Dutch) Lancers also known as the 'red' Lancer regiment. this may help as well http://napoleonistyka.atspace.com/Polis ... ncers.html

3.I don't think so, but I do not have this set yet (or its buried somewhere hehe)

4. Napoleonic uniforms are only tricky to paint due to the multi-color uniforms as compared to most 20th century uniforms.

Hi!!

here is MY point of view concerning polish lancers...

1. As for me it's a pinkish red...

2. no idea of black uniform for polish lancers, be carefull, in the last osprey concerning lancers the blue appears really dark...you may have thought it was black...

3. for me you could go for dutch lancers too (red lancers) even for several other lancers regiment ( vistula lancers for example)

here my lancers

and some of other member of this forum

Thank you very much!
It sorts things out for me.
Chris awesome work, and thank you very much for the photos, I stashed them right away in my reference pics lib.
So how to I get this pinkish crimson red?
In the photos it looks red to me.
Maybe I'll use games workshop scab red for this color?
Thanks for the correction on osprey dark blue uniforms. For me the red lancers were something new so I figures why not black ones as well :P

musketier thank you for this site, and for the answers,
Eyal.
