Paint discovery

Posted by Tantallon2 on 21 Jun 2010, 21:48

Just to share a discovery I've made: I cam across some acrylic paints in a store in Glasgow. They are called MP (abbreviation for Miniature Paints - original I know) and come from a company called Gamecraft. I bought a couple of pots to try out not expecting much as they were so cheap. However, I was very pleasantly surprised when I tried them out. The paint covers very well (much better than Citadel) but you get almost twice as much in a bottle for half the price of citadel. They also fit in my paint drawer!

The colour range is really good and is complementary rather than duplicating the Citadel range. (though black is black and, if anything, the MP white is whiter than Citadel's!). Apparently the inks aren't as good so don't buy them.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a web site for them (though there seems to be distributors in quite a few country) but if you come across them in your local shop give them a go!

Sounds very good, especially now that I need to get some new paints!
And wow! Even more covering than Citadel would be very high!

Here is the range:

but I'm confused by the pricing. The jar I bought was £1.10 but is larger than 15 ml but I don't think it is as large as 90 ml. This is quite an old web posting though so perhaps the jars have been changed. I will dig further!

I'm now thinking that the jars I have are indeed 15 ml. My reason for doubting this was that there is a lot more paint in them than in the Citadel 12 ml pots. I have just looked at a new Citadel pot and I guess that there is at least a third to a half more paint in the MP pot than in the Citadel - so not quite twice the amount of paint and not quite half price (Citadel pots are £1.80 to £2.00 around here). However, still much better value than Citadel but more importantly they have a whole lot of colours that Citadel don't have.

Once I have had a chance to use them more I will report back again. The Coral and Black work well. I have read that they sometimes dry with a bit of a sheen but as I varnish with satin varnish then spray with Matt varnish I can't imagine this will cause any difficulty.
