I have a question about Landsknecht Dopplesoeldner. I know that they acted as file leaders in their regiments, and I think Dopplesoeldner thus acted as a front rank (or several) in battle. I'm basing some Landsknecht pikemen, and what I'm planning to do is base two rows of pikes with some Dopplesoedlner with two-handed swords out in front, within the pike hedge. Is this accurate?
Part of me thinks that the Dopplesoeldner should have been separated from their pikemen so as not to disrupt their own formation. But then looking at some artwork like Holbein's 'Schweizerschlacht', it seems that pikes, halbers and Zweihaender swords were all being weilded in the same formation.
Hope this makes sense. Any suggestions?
