Posted by Emperor on 02 Feb 2016, 14:30

I am interested can some figures that represent Africa Korps from WW2 and Geramn Jagers from WW1 be used as Austro Hungarians in WW1? I know there is a lot of different details, but can it be used for a massive battle where details are not so visible...And if so can someone give me some comparation of uniformes... I want the to use to make more different poses in battle...

Well.. Jaegers and African Germans overly differ from Austro-Hungarian, evenn for mass scene... You need only early A-H? For late period (since 1916) it's possible to use Late War Germans in Stahlhelm M16 by Revell,Emhar, Hat etc..

Representing Austro-Hungarian ww1 soldiers in 1/72 is difficult. Do you want the early war or late war look?

Early...Only what we have are HaT and Strelets sets...Now HaT is good set, but there is hard any on net to buy...
I contacted HaT and they said they might produce some again...Just hope they don't quit from that set...

Not many options in that case I'm afraid. If you like converting you could go down that road. Otherwise, the WW1 german jaeger and ww2 Afrika Korps soldiers look to different I would say. Perhaps you could look for some WW2 Hungarian figures in metal? They might be more close to WW1 Autro-Hungarian soldiers.

Heldo.
I have used ACW Union infantry, both Revell and Italeri, to produce austrian-hungary moountain troops, using the figures with the dolmans, with a lot of knife work and new rifles. It is not 100% accurate but passable on the wargame table top (even more for the older dark/ light blue-grey uniforms, I like 1900 imaginary scenarios). I also scratch built two schwarzlose machine guns.
I will post some photos when I get back home next week.
Regards.

Here are my austrian-hungary mountain troops converted from ACW union infantry, circa 1900. For WW1 just paint them light bluish grey.
