Maximum range of Napoleon's cannons

Posted by Emperor on 21 Oct 2013, 16:35

This is simple question ,,What was the maximum range that cannon ball could reach, and that cannon ball is shot from Napoleon French artillery of 1806...''
Reason, I came to a new information, that Napoleon himself sent few of his Gunman artillery crew to help Ottomans in fight, during 1806...So this is going to make me a more pleasure since I'm Napoleon figures fan...The information that I need is because the guns were placed on bank of small river, so I need to measure what distance was between the river and the trench and redoubt since the cannon was fired at redoubt...

"Tests conducted during the period demonstrated that, under optimum conditions, a 12-pdr. roundshot would, at a range of 600-700 yards"

quoted from http://www.napoleon-series.org/military/Warof1812/2009/Issue12/c_Artillery.html

So consider that we are talking in hundreds of meters. And even 150m would be 2m in 1/72nd scale. Therefore, if you like to build your diorama respectively to artillery max, range better prepare your backyard for it :-D

Does they really shoot at max ranges?? Normally artillery like soldiers would use their weapons at effective range which is much smaller. Between a third and a quarter of maximum range.

Ok we made it...We added a extra plate, because of position of the river...Only problem, I ordered two bags of static grass, they sent me two different colors, dark green and light green, and I told them only dark...So I have now to light the first plate a little, and to darker the second plate a bit...Any way, I go now to lunch, and than to capitol for month or two for radio therapy, so I'm back at December 3rd to fix things...

Can you mix those two bags and get 2 bags of static grass in some middle tone?
