Generic DBA Army?

Posted by Ender Duman on 23 Dec 2012, 16:34

Hello everyone. I need hear your opinions regarding a project I'm working on. Here's the deal: There aren't any miniature war gamers among my friends. If I want to play with them I have to paint everything. I thought if I paint two somewhat generic medieval armies that include all the element types. This way I will save time and energy... and money. With these two armies, I will be able play almost all scenarios (I say "almost" because the armies will not have elephants or chariots). The armies will be based on English and French armies of the Hundred Years period. I will use (mostly) figures from Zvezda and maybe Italeri. Considering that the DBA element size is almost universal, I will be able to play other games. What's your opinion?

a worthwhile goal, you may want to consider HaT's EL Cid range of figures they are nicely done and can paint up easy and quick and can represent many early medieval/crusader armies, just in case one tires of late medieval period.

For the HYW the four Zveza boxes (english&french infantry&cavalry) will give almost everything you need to field late medieval armies, Of course you could also add their medieval peasants ...
If you are more on history: some of Italeri´s english horses show french coats of arms :-)

@ von Auerbergh: Yes, Zvezda sets look wonderful. They also have medieval artillery. But what I fear is this: Zvezda seems to have a scale of its own. I have the Turkish Cavalry set. Those guys are not 1:72, more like 1:60! They are, compared to Italeri figures like, Michael Jordan compared to say Bill Gates. So if my project is going to work, I have to use only Zvezda figures, at least on the same base.

@ musketier: Thank you :) I looked into those guys as well at the PSR and here. They seem ok, but I fear that they will look like dwarfs compared to Zvezda giants. I know that late medieval will wear me out at some point. I may have to dismiss the notion of historical accuracy all together. I don't want to do that because I dont want to :) and I fear the wrath of some of our friends. But the option to paint two "totally generic" armies say a red and a blur army is on the table.
